5 Myths That Hold You Back Trusting Your Own Opinion And Intuition
Consider ignoring those and give yourself more credit
There is a lot of BS from other people out there that intimidates us.
But some things you just learn later in life. At least some of us. Like the stuff others tell you, and you shouldn’t pay too much attention to it.
Here is one of those things: trusting that your own ideas, thoughts, gut feelings and intuition have enormous value.
We have the tendency to pay special attention to people who have more authority, are in superior positions, and have more life and work experience. We tend to believe, listen, or even obey what they tell us.
Which, in many cases, can be absolutely justified and helpful. But often it is not. What stands between information, advice, input, suggestions, ideas, or concepts from others and your own is your feeling that your input is less valuable.
Gaining knowledge, wisdom, skills, critical thinking, and experiences—this all takes time.
On that journey, you need to learn to trust your own instincts, wisdom and insight.
Above all, fine-tune your bullsh*t detectors.
No matter where in life you are standing, you don’t need to fall for certain myths about what others know better than you do, and you can trust your own opinion and intuition more than you think.
5 myths and thinking patterns you can let go of so they no longer hold you back from trusting your own opinion and intuition:
1. The successful, older-than-you, senior career people must be right
Sometimes it takes a while to figure out and believe that your thoughts, your opinions, your ideas, and your skills have as much value as others, if not even more.
2. Self-confident people are arrogant and pretentious
Pay closer attention to people with arrogant and pretentious behavior, with the awareness that these people are very often insecure. With that in mind, you are no longer intimidated by the false self-confidence of others.
3. It’s safer to follow the advice of senior and superior people instead of your own intuition or inner wisdom
As humans, we have unlearned to listen to our intuition. We need to tap into our intuition again to build confidence and peace of mind.
4. The first impression of a person determines who they are
Don’t expect the first impression to be right. Be open-minded; you can change your mind.
5. Sleeping, walking, and being in nature are trendy and the newest hot thing
Since when has it become a thing that normal, natural, human aspects of life have first to be researched, then given a fancy name, and only then do people believe them?
The key is to pay attention to yourself in order to develop self-awareness and maintain a balanced perspective.
Recognize your strengths and accomplishments, but also stay grounded.
Your input and ideas have as much value as others. Learn to trust them. Your intuition will guide you.

Reflection And Reason Are Overrated
Why is split-second decision-making superior to deliberation?
Many of you know the book Blind by Malcolm Gladwell. He based a lot of his insights on the research of psychologist Gerd Gigerenzer.
According to Gerd Gigerenzer, reflection and reason are overrated. Much better qualified to help us make decisions is the cognitive, emotional, and social repertoire we call intuition.
Intuition is our gut feelings that have evolved over the millennia specifically for making decisions. Why are our gut instincts so often right? Turns out that intuition is not some sort of mystical chemical reaction but in fact a neurologically based behavior that evolved to ensure that we humans respond quickly when faced with a dilemma.
You can listen to an interesting podcast with Gerd Gigerenzer from October 12th, 2023 about The Intelligence of Intuition here >>
The See Within And To See From The Inside Out
The ancient Icelandic word for intuition is “innsæi,” which has in Iceland multiple meanings. It can mean “the sea within” which is the borderless nature of our inner world, a constantly moving world of vision, feelings, and imagination beyond words.
It can mean “to see within” which means to know yourself and to know yourself well enough to be able to put yourself in other people’s shoes.
And it can mean “to see from the inside out” which is to have a strong inner compass to navigate your way in our ever-changing world.
This documentary (Trailer: Innsæi – The power of intuition) from years ago by two Icelandic women is the story of soul searching, science, nature, and creativity. Their research and conversations took them on a global journey, speaking to experts, scientists, and teachers to uncover the art of connecting within in today’s world of distraction and stress.
