We are discovering an uncomfortable truth that faster doesn’t mean lesser. I’m nostalgic for the times when communication was slow but substantial, allowing time to process what had been said and to formulate a proper response.
Thanks to speed, we forgot how to enter the stress-relieving mode of response and instead went fully into the constant activation of 'react'.
Nice! "Discovering an uncomfortable truth" about speed. YES! And now things like substantial, processing, responding properly have become "a thing" - instead of recognizing that these are NORMAL ways to communicate and act.
For some time now, I've been thinking about how beautiful, magical, and exciting it would be to send and receive letters, postcards, and notes. To wait for them, read and reread them, and treasure them. It's like creating a chain where unknown people exchange deeper thoughts on any topic.
I wanted to start this initiative here in Milan, as a way for women who feel lonely and isolated to connect and eventually meet and bond in a more meaningful and thoughtful way. In this way, purposeful and emotive effort and time, especially attention, are perceived as the driving force to enter the response mode.
Who knows, maybe one day there will be small community willing to engage in such activity 😊
Why don't you start that idea!? I think it's great. I have an acquaintance in San Francisco who started that kind of project and it turned into a business... encouraging people to send cards, letters, etc. She creates wonderful cards, makes sets, and created all kinds of ideas to bring people to write on paper, postcards etc.
Wow, I’ll check it! Thanks for sharing, Claudia! Why don’t I start it? Because I doubt I can reach enough people yet to start the exchange and set an example. But it’s an idea realistically achievable, once certain conditions are reached. Thank you for your encouragement 💛
Yes, just look at this example of Darcy Lee and her Hail the Snail Mail....and you can find some inspiration and encouragement that your idea is great and worthwhile to pursue.... I enjoy seeing/finding examples of things I was thinking about and seeing that it seems to work...since others made it work.
So true. I've heard the average person works 20 hours more per week than we used to. There are so many time saving apps and software to communicate quicker, and apps and software to manage the time saving apps. I stepped off the business hamster wheel a few years ago, it had sped up to a ridiculous pace of demand on my time 24/7. My body and mind are still adjusting to not having to be busy all the time but I'm getting there.
It's so nice to hear from more and more people how they try to get away from too crazy busy life (usually connected to work/business). Didn't we want to work less and we ended up working 20hrs more per week? Crazy humans.
