Welcome to the Wednesday Thread to un-rush – a weekly offer to readers to connect and discuss 1 Question re: Slow Living pros/cons.
In the comments let us know what your thoughts are on:
What kind of situations have you experienced where you noticed that because of going too fast you have fu** up?
Perhaps we want to rush because we are already too late, or we got impatient to wait any longer, or we need to catch the bus? Or do we get pressured to make a quick decision? Did you give in to the rushing and drop or break things (or body parts)? Or you created an inconvenient situation for somebody else? Perhaps you regretted a not so thought-through decision?
Here is one of my experiences:
I have been in many situations where I thought in hindsight…gee, why the hell did I have to run and rush -- for What in the end?
I remember a stupid situation when living in Tokyo and my mom visited.
We were trying to catch a commuter train, running up the stairs, I aimed for the still-open train doors not looking back at how far my mom was behind me. Just the mere idea that the train was on the platform with the door open triggered me to try to “catch” it. When my mom finally caught up, the doors closed the very moment she stepped onto the train. One half of her body was inside the train, the other outside. Shut. Tight. My mom panicked; I was terrified. The train started moving (trains in Japan leave exactly on time, no excuses.) Fellow passengers and I pulled to get my “whole mom” inside. We managed but it took several seconds what felt like minutes. And why did I rush again? Those commuter trains go every 5 to 10 minutes. No rush is necessary, and certainly not at the expense of a loved one getting almost a heart attack.
What are your experiences/thoughts?

What a compelling and terrifying story, Claudia? And so true! We all seem to prioritize getting there fast.
My typical stories are the ones where I'm rushing to do something like empty the dishwasher and everything goes wrong - I drop and break a plate yanking it out too quickly, then slam my shin on the dishwasher door and cut my toe on the glass rushing to the closet to get the broom to sweep it up. Then getting the broom out, I knock over a bottle of all purpose cleaner and the lid comes off and it spills all over the floor... and then... there's the inevitable nuclear meltdown as I sit on the kitchen floor and sob... or maybe that's just me.
I hear you with slamming your shin on the dishwasher door...:-) LOL. My shin hurts from slamming it against the oven door. So stupid. I can say in my case, when it comes to household work I try to rush it because I just.don't.like.doing.it. So I hurry...with the result things break, spill, fall, etc.
